Pons
1991 Gray Thoroughbred Mare
16 hands
unraced
May of 2007 Rafa Pons was spotted by a newscopter running
along a parkway in the Bronx. The ASPCA was contacted and
found this horse to be in poor condition. Despite several
warnings, the owner was unable to satisfy the ASPCA and
in lieu of arrest on felony animal cruelty charges, the
owner of Rafa Pons relinquished ownership of his horse to
the ASPCA. Believe it or not, Rafa Pons was being kept in
a trailer (literally a truck trailer) on a lot in the Bronx.
The ASPCA immediately contacted New York Horse Rescue to
help with the care and rehabilitation of this poor horse.
Rafa Pons arrived at NYHR on June 14, 2007, the day she
was released by her owner. She is severely underweight,
but a veterinarian examination has revealed her to be otherwise
healthy. Rafa Pons has been wormed and bathed and now has
a clean stall, fresh bedding, and plenty of hay and grain.
She will remain at NYHR until her physical condition improves
at which time she will be evaluated for adoption. Rafa Pons
was born in Maryland. Her sire is Carnivalay and she is
out of a Silver Buck (Buckpasser) mare. She has had three
Thoroughbred foals, the last one born in 2005. September
07: Rafa Pons was adopted by Dolores in NY!
